Contest: Handmade Earrings

Love handmade jewelry?  Then you will want to check out this blog that is just starting up, Love My Art Jewelry.  They will be doing some neat giveaways every 2nd & 4th Mondays.  Click here to check it out.

And the winner is...

First of all, I would like to thank everyone for their wonderful comments.  I would have liked to have responded to everyone individually but I am still trying to keep the typing down to a minimum.  (That's also why I have slowed down on posting)  But just know that I truly treasure all of your kind comments.

And now for the fun part. I went thru and carefully verified that who was and wasn't a follower and added in the extra entries that some folks too advantage of.  Then I went over to Random.org to draw a winner.  I then tried to cut and paste the little generator here but wasn't able too.  Le sigh...  Well anyways the winning comment is:

Oh I'd love an opportunity to own this movie again, had to give it up years ago when my sons and I were going through tough times. Happily now Following you and even Tweeted about your giveaway (I'm 'plumroselane' on twitter)I do hope your wrist and arm feel better ~ just got over 'tennis elbow' so I know how frustrating and painful it can be.

Congrats Sharon!!

Hopefully y'all will stick around as I look forward to getting to know you all.

Practical Magic Blog Party

Cover of "Practical Magic (Snap Case)"
I loved the movie Practical Magic so when I came across the fact that there was going to be a blog party based around it, I jumped at the chance to participate!  Oh I had so many plans on how I wanted this blog post to look and what I planned to give away.  Well my health threw a giant wrench into the works.  I have been blessed with acute inflammation  in my right wrist and elbow so a lot of my plans have gone out the window.  But no fear.  I am still giving goodies away.

One winner will get a $25 gift certificate to Amazon so that they can own their own copy of the movie or perhaps the book or whatever.  The second part of this giveaway will be a part of Goddess earrings that I will make as soon as I can comfortable hold the tools needed.

To enter, simply be or become a follower of my blog and leave me a comment letting me know.

Please leave a way to contact you in each entry.

For extra entries ( and please leave a comment for each entry):
1.  Blog about my giveaway & leave the link  x3

Today was the day that marked the beginning of the dark side of the year.  This is the time for introspection and for creative pursuits more suited for inside.  I have to admit that for years I hated this time of year as it also brings the cold and our house was so drafty that the wind blew thru the windows even when closed.  Not exactly a good thing for anyone that suffers from fibromyalgia.  This year we are in a warm snug home and I am looking forward to hiding myself down in my studio and creating.

What plans do you have this time of the year?

Contest: Halloween Costumes

That time of the years is sneaking up again.  I am always surprised at the cost of costumers.  Well Little Yaya's is having a contest for a GC to Anytime Costumes.  They have some great costumes at reasonable prices.

Contest: Tillamook Cheese

I love cheese.  I am pretty sure that everything is better with cheese.  Well maybe not everything, I am not too sure that ice cream would work well with grated cheese.  My favorite brand of cheese made in America is Tillamook cheese so when I saw that Sweeps4Bloggers is holding a contest for tillamook cheese, I just had to enter and I wanted to share the contest.  Click here for more info.

Review: The Complete Book of Polymer Clay

I was recently given a chance to review an electronic copy of THE COMPLETE BOOK OF POLYMER CLAY.  Boy am I glad that I did.  As my readers know already, I enjoy making jewelry and I now have room in my new home to experiment with making my own beads.  One of the mediums that I have been very interested in has been polymer clay and Ms. Pavelka makes it all seem so easy.  Starting out with what you need to get started, she then takes her readers on a journey beginning with easy techniques to give you a chance to build up your confidence and skills until you are capable of the most difficult projects.

And let's not forget the photographs.  I was just amazed with what all can be done with polymer clay.  There are some great projects at the end to round out the experience.  I really want to try the Faux Dichroic Shield Pendant.

After reading this book, I can hardly wait to get started playing around with the clay.  I know that I will be purchasing the paperback version for my studio library.

I give this book a rating of 4.1.

Go With Honor Bastian

Today has not been a good day.  Today was the first day that the animals were left home today for a full day in the new home.  Saje, my husband, came home to find blood spots going thru the house.  At the end, he found his cat Bastian who definitely put up a good fight but was pretty torn up.  My cat Deja was plucked but otherwise unhurt and Monster was just fine.  The best we can figure out is that Bastian stood his ground so the other cats could escape.  He was such an unusual cat and this is just the kind of thing he would do.  I got a call at work and rushed home just in time to tell him goodbye.  He was one of the neatest cats that I have ever had the pleasure of being owned by.

Go with honor Bastian.  You will be remembered.

Guilty as Charged

Blogs on JoopeAImage via WikipediaI freely admit it.  I am addicted to reading blogs.  I might way to myself that I will only read them for 30 minutes and then I look at the time 2 hours later.  And I subscribe to way too many blogs but they are all so interesting in different ways.  And I know that I could keep up with them if only I didn't like to comment so much.

Well since I am not keeping up, I took the plunge today and deleted everything over a day old.  I still have a couple hundred to read but that is better then over a thousand.  So why do I feel so guilty now???

Insert Title Here

Plants on the Croquet Lawn in front of the mai...Image via Wikipedia
I swear that coming up with titles for this blog is the hardest part.  My mind always goes blank.  And when I do manage to come up with one, half the time it doesn't really work.  I know that is my fault because I do tend to ramble on and jump about.

Spent this morning checking out the BlogMania.  I found some really great blogs that I followed and some others that I followed that I will be unfollowing after the drawings.  I have to shake my head and wonder why someone would make being a follower a requirement to enter a contest.  All it does is make more work the people entering if the blog is really not something that one would be interested in anyways.  The blog crawl did its job for sure.  I probably found about 30 to 40 new blogs that I will keep following.

The refuse mafia finally delivered our garbage/recycling cans.  It only took 5 calls to get them to do their job.  I really wish that there would be some way to charge them for all the time that I wasted keeping after them.    No matter...they finally showed up.

Now I am researching composting.  I didn't realize that I could use composted earth (or whatever you would call it) for houseplants.  I plan on getting house plants.  I have lived for 5 years in a house so dark that I couldn't grow anything.  This new house is so much lighter.  I will have house plants even if it kills me.  I even found a banana plant that I am considering getting.

I really am good at wandering off the train of thought.  So I am wandering around the internet trying to decide between a compost pile or a worm bin.  If anyone out there has experience. which would you recommend?

Eeeks.. I guess that I had better go put clothes away.  It was great chatting with you.

Til later!

Where did the weekend go?

An IKEA Billy bookshelf, 80x106 cm, finished i...Image via Wikipedia
I can't believe that it is sunday night already.  It seems as though the weekend just started and I didn't accomplish near as much as I thought I would.  In fact, I didn't accomplish much at all.  I did manage to go in and work for a few hours yesterday and get the grocery shopping done.  I have a funny feeling that I will be sneaking in some overtime every change I get as I love my new house but there are things that I really need to get for it like living room furniture.  I am just glad that Ikea has some nice couches at a reasonable price.  Oh and bookcase, many bookcases.

What I didn't get done is to sort through some paperwork to find out what I need to keep and what needs to be recycled.  Speaking of recycling, I still don't have my garbage or recycling cans.  I have been here a week and I ordered the utilities turned on a week before we moved.  I swear I hate the garbage mafia in this town.  Don't they understand that when a person moves they are going to have a lot of recycling and garbage.  I can't even take the garbage to the dump because I don't have a utility bill yet.  I wonder what they would do if I took it all and dumped it on their front lawn?

I haven't had a change to set up my studio yet.  Well I can't actually say that as I did have this weekend but I had been shorting myself on my pain pills so I wouldn't run out before time to refill them so I have been really hurting.  I did go refill them today and I have some relief but if everything goes according to the norm, it will be couple days before I am back to normal.

It did give me an excuse however to hit up some great book blogs during their blogfest.  Hopefully I will win some new books.  Books are going to be the downside of moving.  All those wonderful books that I was receiving from publishers are going to come to a halt.  Oh why can't UPS & FedEx set up a forwarding system?

So how was everybody's weekend?  Did you manage to accomplish everything on your list?

Review: Chains of Fire

I am certainly an addict when it comes to reading.  Even in the middle of our move, I have a book that I am reading.  In fact, it was one that I discovered during the move.  When it arrived for some reason it didn't get put with my other review books.  Needless to say as soon as it appeared, I snagged it because I love this series.

CHAINS OF FIRE, the fourth book in The Chosen Ones series, is centered around the relationship between Samuel Faa and Isabelle Mason.  Samuel, the Gypsy lawyer, is the adopted son of Isabelle's mother's butler yet they obviously have a history that goes beyond this.  When they are not working a case, they are unable to be in the same room without sniping at each other.  Yet where there is hate somethings there is also love.

I was really impressed by CHAINS OF FIRE.  In my opinion, it is the best of the series to date.  There are so many questions being answered about their history together, so many issues that they have to work through if they are going to resolve their part of the prophecy.  If you have been following this series, and if you haven't this is a series well worth starting, I highly recommend picking up this latest installment.

I rate this book a 4.2

Fall Already?!?

Acer triflorum fall leavesImage via Wikipedia
No the trees aren't changing yet but when I woke up this morning it was to grey skies and there was a lot of liquid sunshine coming down.  I guess that it really is getting towards that time of the year.  But we had such a late start to the summer that I was really hoping that we would get an Indian summer.  However it doesn't appear as I will get lucky, this year at least. I know that for a lot of people fall is their favorite time of the year.  I just don't happen to be one of them.  Though I am just glad that the rain held off until we had everything moved.

Speaking of the move, everything is coming together slowly.  Saje is putting things away upstairs.  I haven't been able to start on my studio yet as it needs to have one of the walls finished up with drywall.  That is supposed to be happening sometime this next week.  I sure hope that it happens quickly as I need to complete some jewelry as prizes in the blog crawl that I signed up for.

Oh I got some surprising news on Monday night.  My mother called (I can be really bad about keeping in touch) to let me know that she had gotten married...a month ago.  I guess that I am not the only one bad about keeping in contact.  I let her know about the house too and suggested that a good way to keep up with me would be to read this blog.  We shall have to see if she does.

So anyways, how is your week going?  Does it look as though fall is invading your area already?

Contest: Gorgeous Pendant

As a reward for a long day of unpacking, I finally was able to sit down at my computer and check out some of my blogs that I follow.  On one of them, Art From My Heart, the owner is giving away this incredible pendant.  Click here to check out her contest and be sure to check out the blog as Marie is just the warmest person.

Alive? maybe...

Women in a garden with fruit trees, by Prescot...Image via Wikipedia
I have come to the conclusion that the next time I move, I am paying people to pack me up and move everything.  I don't mind the unpacking at the end if I can avoid the rest.  I can always blame my laziness on my fibro.  Whatcha think?
I love the new house so don't get me wrong.  I know that it is going to be all worth it in the end.  But right now my body is absolutely killing me.  It is times like this that I realize just much of a grip my fibro has on me.
And I remember a time that if I didn't move every six months, I would start feeling trapped.  Not anymore.  I really want roots.  I want to know that I will be able enjoy the fruit off a tree that I plant this year a few years down the line.  I have started a list of things that I want to upgrade in the house.

A List for pete's sake.  I have never been a list person.

But what I find really amazing are the animals.  I keep looking at my Pom. Devil and wonder who swapped in out in the night for a new version.  I love Kharma but he has always been a yappy dog that likes to bite.   We get him over to the new house and here he was loving up on all of our helpers.  And no yapping at random noise.  Very strange...

Yes this is home already.  Still have a lot of work to do in getting everything put away.  But I am home.

Packing with Cats

It really is amusing to watch the different ways that animals react to change.  My cats especially are wondering what the heck is going on.

First up is Sterling, who has renamed himself Monster.  Not quite sure why he prefers that name but I started calling him a monster kitty because of his size.  Now he only answers to Monster.  Strange how they pick their own names.  Anyways, he is the cat that I expect will take the move the easiest.  He is the youngest and very easy going.  But right now he is most concerned that I will find where he has stashed all my beads.   Of course, he is showing me where they are located as he keeps running to check them.

Now Bastian is tripping.  Not exactly sure what is going on but wants to make sure that we don't forget him.   We keep finding him hiding in boxes.  I know already that he won't like this move as he is very creature of habit.  Though he is very much a daddy's boy so finding Dad at the other end will help out.

Now my special anorexic kitty Deja' doesn't seem to care one way or another.  I will have to see how that goes but I am pretty sure that he will be content as long as there is windows with sun and me.  He won't like the fact that we will be able to have guests or that we will be having a roommate.   After all it takes him two weeks to accept Saje's kids and he know them.

Well the move date is this saturday and I have been going round and round in my head how to get all seven animals there and out of the way.  It should be fun.
